I had written this track over two years ago, but didn't feel confident about my ability to produce it. I had approached Tombstone and Freewave, among others, to be the track's producer. Eventually I found Winter Moose of Knights of the Crystal Empire.
The five of us worked on recording and producing the track for the last 6 or so months, in the aim to submit it to the next Balloon Party album (as it is rather experimental, and lyrically meaningful), and hoping that we would have the track done long before the due date arrived, and yet we only managed to get it submitted 10 hours before the deadline. Thankfully, our hard work paid off, and we managed to get onto Academy of Power. ^_^
lyrics
VERSE 1:
Tell me what to do and tell me where to go
Tell me what to say, 'cause I don't really know
I need your guide and opinion.
Leave the thinking to a smarter, better guy
Your word is wisdom, so we'll never even try
Why don't you just take dominion?
CHORUS:
I've got no mind of my own.
I threw it away long ago
I can do whatever I want; I don't know what I wanna do.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
VERSE 2:
Tell me what to do and tell me where to go
Tell me what to say so I can say to you NO!
I'm an individual now
The fat cats are all actin' so depraved (YEAH!)
Time to take 'em down and send 'em to their graves (YEAH!)
Don't you treat me like a fool now. But still-
CHORUS 2:
I've got no mind of my own.
I threw it away long ago
I can do whatever I want; I don't know what I wanna do.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
BRIDGE:
(You want me to think for myself.
You say I need to think for myself
You show me how to think for myself.
No, I don't wanna think for myself) x2
I don't wanna be independent, no. I just wanna agree with you.
I don't wanna be independent, no. I just wanna disagree with you.
CHORUS 3:
I've got no mind of my own.
I threw it away long ago
I can do whatever I want; I don't know what I wanna do.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
I guess I'm nothing without you.
